Summer Camps and Roadtrip
Every few years the internet reminds us how beautifully connected we are and for a fleeting moment, we return to summer camp.

AIM, Early Twitter, Path, Meerkat, Vine, Early Snap, Clubhouse, Turntable.
Magical.
Reunions with old friends. Forging a backstory with new. Warm nights receding into daylight. Belly laughs and great jams. Intimate. Carefree.
Indelible.
In another life I’d be running a summer camp. Instead, I search them out and when I get that feeling, I try to get involved or invest. For the last few years of Sundays, there’s one summer camp I couldn’t get out of my head, so my friend Brian Wagner and I decided to build it. Meet Roadtrip.

For those that remember Turntable (RIP), you’ll grasp the intent.
For any who missed that magical moment, imagine an 8-bit oasis where friends listened to great tunes and made playlists together. Might sound simple given all that exists today, but this is how it to felt:

It’s taken time and a lot of Sunday jams to get here, but last weekend, Roadtrip finally gave us that feeling again and we decided to invite friends.
I love products that make us feel close. Products that remind us how much we love being together. Blending the right mix of synchrony in the asynchronous. I hope we never stop building them. I hope the critics never silence the tinkerers who love turning ideas into toys that become something special.
For those asking, will it stick? Will it scale? There’s a reason summer camps only last for a season. Ephemeral doesn’t make it less memorable. If anything, it leaves us nostalgic and craving.
What do we want Roadtrip to become? If even for a moment, you get those summer camp vibes too, we’ll be happy.
Like any good summer camp, there are still plenty of bugs, but if you want to get involved or send positive thoughts, find us on Twitter or shoot us a note: summer@roadtrip.fm.
This one took a village. Thanks to our counselors: Ammaar Reshi, Jesica Alhberg, Jim Rand, James Meier, Balazs, Sasha, Kate Mazzeo, Greg Baroth, Patrick Mandia, Michael Galpert and every friend who spent those Sundays with Brian and I along the way.
